Link Dump 12-17-2011

Here comes another link dump.

Browsing the web and saving endless links to various sites can be tedious and not to mention difficult to manage. So, we are dumping links we like on a per-week basis.

Everything from culture to computers. Everything from art to automotive. You never know what’s behind these links. Have fun and pass them along if you like them.

Flame Painter Online – This is a totally amazing Java based app that let’s you simulate painting with fire. There is a best-of gallery also. It takes a little tweaking but you can eventually make some really nice images. I love this.

The Comic Sans Criminal – This is funny more than anything. But the content of this site speaks the truth. You should never use the Comic Sans font for anything. Ever.

The Cartographers’ Guild

The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Their membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.

Although they specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, they specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

35 Free Grunge Fonts – Nice fonts for abstract designs where messy is good.

Get your web browsing history – This is a JavaScript solution for getting a visitors browser history. While this is not really revealing anything secret, it does pose as a solution for some interesting projects. When you visit a website your browser already reports it’s referrer to the HTTP server. But what if you could tell if someone was coming to your site from or from some other place and you could display or hide custom content. Could be handy.
